New Tools for the Digital Jedi Warrior
Filippo Menczer and other data scientists at Indiana University’s Observatory on Social Media (OSoMe) are building tools that allow researchers to track the spread of information -- and misinformation -- across online social networks. One common factor that helps fake news go viral is automated "bots" that overwhelm posts by real people.
I have not tested the Hoaxy or Botometer tools yet but the video has several key points. To me a key point is the one made at the end when the video says to think before you click or share. Please read beyond the headline, which most studies confirm people do not when sharing social media posts, before you spread misinformation.
